Day 11 – Le Porge to Mimizan – a quick 112 km!

Day 11
Weds 9th September
Kms travelled; 114
Kms to go: 180

Our alarms go off at 6, in the dark and as I use my torch to guide me back up the farm to the bathroom, I pass, a peacock, chattering guinea pigs, munching goats and snuffling pigs. The sky is really dark, with the whole moon showing itself behind the bright the crescent.

Jasmine had made us breakfast, we don’t usually eat so early but it looked so pretty, laid out in a basket and the coffee was great. They have done a fantastic job, supplementing their income on this plot of land. We all had the best sleep of the whole trip. We are sad to leave the ducks as we could stay all day watching them.

As we’ve all breakfasted, we poodle off and cover 30k before morning coffee. We’re travelling on yet another disused railway track, following old stations along the way. I always find this fascinating, I would love to live in one, complete with platform and ticket office.

It’s a really easy day and we arrive at Mimizan earlier than we thought.

ACCOMMODATION

Tonight we’re in a mobile home on a caravan park, complete with bar, restaurant and swimming pool BUT its all closed as its now out of season.

On our last trip it was all AirBnB but we’ve boycotted them and am at the mercy of Booking.com. We tried to book cheap places with 2 bedrooms or sometimes a room and a sofa bed but when we get there it rarely seems to be 2 rooms with 2 doors….there’s a lot of passing through one room to get to another or the bathroom, so alot of communal living. Having said that the teepee was by far the best night sleep we all had.

We’re now having trouble with linen as suddenly found it’s extra and sometimes alot. Tomorrow night the towels are 7€ each..we’ve declined.

Paradoxically, the further south we get, the colder the nights become. We’re now very thankful for the duvets!

“If you like Piña Colarda”…we do
