Monday 7th September
Kms cycled today: 98
Kms left: 523
An early start again to beat the heat. Arrive in town of St Jean d’angles at gone nine on a Monday morning and nothing is open, eventually find the only cafe.

Food is like a treasure hunt, picking things up whenever we get the chance. A pain vending machine, a charcuterie, scrumping…we have to make sure we always have some as we can go for hours without seeing anyone (or a shop)
Today’s destination is Royan for an early ferry across the bay in the morning but that also means a swim in the ocean tonight!!
We yearn for a beer but every promise of a small town comes to nothing. I think these cycle paths are just too far off of the beaten track.

But Heaven!! A town with a few shops and a few bars suddenly appears like an oasis in the desert…a desert of endless fields of dried sunflower plants and ploughed fields…nothing much to see for miles….its been a day of lefts and rights and a bit of back tracking BUT all is forgotten when we spy the sea…a beautiful bay, nearly deserted as we are late but all aches and pains soon melt away as we bob about watching the setting sun.
